At the age of sixteen he migrated without his parents to West Bromwich, England. Rev. Thompson migrated to the United States with his family where they continued to attend the Triumphant Church of God under the late Bishop Phillip Burris at 7 Sutter Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. He continued his trade in carpentry and furthered his education by attending NYT College and eventually became a member of the New York Carpenters & Joiners Union where he retired as a Shop Steward.

In 1987, Rev. Thompson started a new ministry at 545 Gates Avenue along with other families from Triumphant with the blessing of Bishop Burris.
